Reddit mistakes that lead to poor results, bans and suspensions

Before you start posting, let’s talk about how to avoid some common mistakes when picking NSFW subreddits.

Bigger is not always better: while it’s nice to post in subreddits with millions of members, it doesn’t always lead to the best results. If your content isn’t a great fit for the subreddit, it will not get much traction, and may even lead to post removals or outright bans – more on that below! But it’s important to note that these are known as advertising subreddits, and do not tend to get a lot of engagement from regular Reddit users. Posting when you have limited karma: every new Reddit account starts with only 1 karma. Karma is based on upvotes – when you post or comment and get upvotes, you gain karma.

To check if you are shadow banned on reddit, open up a private window where you are not logged in and go to your account profile – https://reddit.com/user/your-username. If you see your profile, you’re good. If you don’t, it means you’re shadowbanned.

When you are shadowbanned, there is no known way to reverse it. You’ll have to start a new account from scratch (ideally with a new browser).
